WUWM Meeting with European Parliament Minister

On 5 September 2006, WUWM members Marc Spielrein and Marcel Verbelen had the opportunity to meet in Strasbourg with Marianne Thyssen, a Belgian member of the European Parliament who sits on the Committee for Internal Market and Consumer Protection. During this meeting, Mrs Thyssen was informed of the goals of WUWM with particular emphasis on the membership and activities of the European regional group of the Union. Information was given to her on the definition of a wholesale market; the WUWM Guide to Good Practice for Wholesale Market Authorities; as well as the action plan of the WUWM regarding its mission, values, goals and strategies. Mr Spielrein and Mr Verbelen also spoke with Mrs Thyssen on the reform of the common organization of fruit and vegetable markets, emphasizing the need for organizing the production of fresh fruit and vegetables in a way that will provide consumers with quality product, and that will allow for a better nutrition of the consumer by increased regular consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables.
